It’s been a long time since the last words were written on this page. Last weekend was great. On Friday I was playing until early in the morning and again needed to wake up very early to attend a group meeting. The assignment was not finished until the following night (Sunday). Saturday night was such a great night. I came home around 5pm after the group meeting and went straight home to get ready for a double-birthday/engagement/graduation party at Thordis and Gummi’s place. I and Kolla had a great time but I had to leave early because a few people from my primary school had planned to meet for drinks to talk about old times. It’s been years since I had such a good time. All the old stories and pranks are so much fun to recollect. It was I, Bogga, Jonni, Saedis and Pesi that got together but we were all close friends some 10 years ago or so. After the night we made a pact to stay in touch which we have since which is great.

After staying at Bogga’s place on Saturday we went downtown to Pravda where I met Kolla again with Joe and Hildur but all three of them had been in the party at Thodis’ place until we met. We ended up club-hopping until 6 or something in the morning. Way to much partying but the night was great.

I was also in touch with a friend, Haukur, recently but after talking to him I decided to become a part of the Libertarian Society’s management team. There is a meeting tomorrow where the new management will take over but our first meeting will be on Sunday. I must say I am very excited about this and look forward to working with them. Libertarianism is something I have strong feelings about. Economic freedom is in my opinion the strongest force to curtain poverty and increase affluence in the world.

As The Economist recently stated:
“In Haiti, for example, it takes 203 days to register a new company, which is 201 days longer than in Australia. In Sierra Leone, it costs 1,268% of average annual income per person, compared with nothing in Denmark. To register in Ethiopia, a would-be entrepreneur must deposit the equivalent of 18 years' average income in a bank account, which is then frozen.
Once incorporated, a firm may want to buy land upon which to build a factory. In Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital, recording a property sale involves 21 procedures and takes 274 days. Official fees amount to 27% of the value of the transaction. In Norway, the task takes less than a day and costs only 2.5% of the price of the property.”
…and people wonder why third world countries are stuck in poverty!

We are always edging closer and closer to getting the apartment that is downstairs in Kolla’s house. It is a dream apartment for us and it will, without a doubt, chance everything for us to move in.

School is fine, work is crazy and I’m for the first time getting behind with my reading this week. But only in the MA Econ, I am always on top of everything in my MBA program which is a priority.

It is Friday night when I write this and I’m not Dj-ing tonight. I got the whole weekend off because of school work. I have a group meeting 10am tomorrow and Sunday as well. We have an assignment due on Monday about a visit to a company we had earlier this week. The company is Hagar which has the largest market share on the grocery market in Iceland. I was so impressed with the visit, the enthusiasm in their talks and the values the management works by was admirable. Hagar is the type of company I would want to become a part of after finishing my studies. They are very fond of Jack Welch’s management ideas which I found very interesting and modern. Here you can see an interview with Jack Welch in the University of Chicago (The world Mecca of classical economics) some time ago.

This Dj-ing thing seems to be getting more and more in conflict with my studies. I have to re-evaluate my time behind the decks next week and organize things.

Tonight it is a movie, pizza and a beautiful lady to chill with. Man life is great

Tomorrow after the group meeting, and the meeting with the Libertarian Society it is concert time. The German techno band Scooter is in Iceland tomorrow night which a friend of mine is organizing. We’ve got tickets so tomorrow its techno-time…but not a late-nighter…because on Sunday its more school work.

I don’t want to keep these bloggs too long and this one is way too long already so here I am going to stop. From now on, shorter and more frequent bloggs are ahead!
