Christmas greeting

It is crazy how fast the time flies…it’s Christmas AGAIN! December 22nd is vetrarsólstöður in Iceland which is the day with the least amount of daylight, only 4 hours! So it is very dark around this time of year but with all the Christmas lights it’s beautiful. Christmas time is always traditional here in Iceland. Kolla goes to her parents for dinner on Christmas Eve and I go to mine. Her parents always have ptarmigan for dinner but mine has roasted pig-spine but most families have either of these and always the same so its going to be very hard for us to spend Christmas dinner together because for both of us the meals our families have are sacred part of the feast! On Christmas day its family gatherings and more eating…which is followed by more days of…you guessed it…eating extremely good food…which again should be followed by an intense exercise program after the feast..which of course never happens!

Audun, the Norwegian, is coming to visit us on December 31st and is staying until January 5th. December 31st is the biggest party day of the year. People go crazy with fireworks at midnight but a typical family buys fireworks for about 150-200 CAD! We eat great food, drink great wines and end the night in a party with friends or in a nightclub.

We moved into an apartment earlier this month. Its very large, more than 100m2. We still have not completely settled in because of exams and projects due the last few days of the semester. Kolla finished her last exam December 21 but I still have some projects that I have to work on during the break. Kolla will finish her BA Psychology in May and is probably going to work for a year and then do her master’s in psyc but that means going overseas again! Funfunfun. I will hopefully have finished my master’s degrees by then so we could go together and switch places. I will then work but Kolla stay in school.

We are going to travel hopefully a bit next year. Kolla is going to Denmark in January but my MBA program is going to China late next year!!!! A friend of mine was also accepted into the Ph.D program in Computer Science in January 2005 in a uni in Boston…so I am pretty sure I will try to visit him as well. A part from that it is going to be hardcore job-hunting for next summer after the break but we have both been working a little bit with school. Kolla working shifts in a home with mentally and physically challenged people and I have been dj-ing.

Both of us miss Canada. Life in Wolfville was so simple but when you are back home it is so complicated. But its cool. We still have not sold the Jeep, and probably won’t do it. If we want to sell it right away we won’t get a good price and besides I love that car. We bought a VW Polo for Kolla so I have the Jeep all for my self so I’m pretty sure it is going to be a keeper.

With our new apartment and two cars it is now extremely easy for us to welcome you guys here in Iceland if you want to visit. We sincerely hope we will see some of you here next year…you can count on seeing us in your country soon :)

We hope you will have a merry Christmas and a wonderful new year!
